Mysterious Ways

  • A trucker drives through a small town in Guatemala and hears the Gospel on a local radio station. He pulls over, calls the station, and the program host leads the man to Christ...on the air.

  • A distraught, young African mother decides that ending her life is the only way out of dire circumstance. On the verge of hanging herself, she turns the radio up to cover the noise of the chair that would fall as the act takes place. Words of hope boom across the room out of the small radio. The mother’s heart is touched, changed… instead of ending her life, she decides to live a new life in Christ.

  • A Nazarene church in a small, northeastern Brazilian village partners with the local government to manage an “alternative radio station” that consists of loudspeakers on electrical poles. This is a poor community with no radio stations. To facilitate communications, the people gather around the electrical poles where they hear important news of the day from the government…and the Gospel shared by church members.

Eight years ago when I came to work with World Mission Broadcast (WMB), I was astounded by stories like these. The “mystery” of how messages heard over “airwaves” could change a life intrigued me…baffled me really. I’ve wondered how God could get through to people and transform their lives simply by a message heard on a radio or TV program?

I don’t have a pat answer to my ponderings, but I am certain now, more than ever, that we serve a God who is able. We serve a God who moves in “mysterious ways” to effect change and bring new life to people anywhere, by any means. And this is exactly what He does every day around the world through WMB.

WMB is 65 years old this year and is as effective as ever in going beyond borders and barriers to minister…but we need your help. We would like to ask for your financial support by giving a one-time or ongoing, monthly gift.

As you consider your financial involvement, remember there are millions of people just like the trucker in Guatemala, the young African mother, and the village people in northeastern Brazil who need to hear about God’s love, and they will because of a God who is able…and because you give.

May our Lord, who moves in mysterious ways, bless you with His love and presence.
