Lost jobs. Lost Hope. Lost dreams. It’s the reality of today’s economic crisis. From Beijing to Boston...from Beirut to Buenos Aires, families, governments and businesses are feeling the impact of the current recession. It would be no surprise that the world economic situation is also having a negative impact on World Mission Broadcast and our ministries around the world. Shock is the only way I can describe my feelings as I opened the financial giving report for the first five months of this budget year. For the first time in the 65-year history of this ministry, receipts are down 39% compared to this time last year. -39%! Sure, it was just a number on a printed report, but as the director it translates into limited resources to support our radio and TV broadcasters who are pouring their lives out to reach Beyond Borders and Barriers to touch people’s lives for Christ. Without available resources, the weekly Arabic TV program Aktar Min Kalam “More Than Words” cannot continue to be produced or aired. Mujer Valiosa “The Valued Woman” TV and radio programs, produced and distributed by our South America regional communications center, will not be seen nor heard by the potential viewing audience of 25 million people each month. And the list goes on and on, from Papua New Guinea to Uruguay, without sufficient financial support, this message of hope will go silent. What can you do? What can I do? First and foremost, continue to pray for these broadcast ministries. Join us in praying for those who invest their hearts and souls in this ministry around the world. Pray that the words that go beyond borders and barriers will find receptive hearts in those who listen. And pray that God will continue to provide the necessary resources to support this broadcast ministry. Only through the faithful giving of donors and the annual World Mission Broadcast offering received through local churches will this ministry continue to take place. Every dollar makes a difference. A simple gift of $4 supports one minute of broadcast that will touch someone’s life. It’s a small amount, but if everyone can do a small part, together we will continue to see this ministry be used of God. Shalom. Dave Anderson |
