Guatemala Radio Program Reaches Truckers with the Good News of Christ
Radio Bienestar, a FM radio station whose transmitter sits on the patio of the Puerto Barrios Church of the Nazarene in Izabal, Guatemala, is sending out the good news of Christ to their community.
On January 31, 2002, Nazarene pastor Alex Chapeta was the speaker on a radio program called “Moments of Communion with God.” Pastor Chapeta was saying:
“….Anyone who feels alone, with problems or without hope and would like to make a decision to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, repeat after me….”
Within a few minutes the station’s telephone rang and it was Isaac, a truck driver who was traveling to Puerto Barrios to pick up his cargo. Isaac said that God had touched his heart while listening to the Pastor’s message and that he wanted to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Pastor Chapeta prayed with him on the air.
When the program was over and Pastor Chapeta was about the leave the station another call came in. This time it was Rudi, another truck driver who had heard Pastor Chapeta pray with Isaac. Rudi was moved to call from his truck and ask the pastor to pray with him because he too wanted to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Pastor Chapeta, in following up with Isaac, learned that Isaac took the message of hope he received that night on the radio home to his family. His wife Carmen and their children, Marina, Ana Ruth and Juan Jose have accepted Christ and are attending a church in Guatemala City. The family remains in constant contact with Pastor Chapeta.
It is through your prayers and gifts that World Mission Broadcast becomes a vehicle for sending out God’s message of love and redemption to the world – and individuals like Isaac and Rudi.
