RATED PG Celebrates Two Years on the Air!
By Cryz Colorado
Nazarene Pastor Cryz Colorado and his wife, Nerizza, had hiked on foot for an hour to reach the agricultural community of Laur, in the Philippines. Guided by a group of young people from the rural community, the couple entered one of the villages and noticed there was no electricity. And yet, many homes had televisions sets and radios ? powered by car batteries.
It was through this ingenuity that some of the community's 30 families had been listening to Rated PG, a weekly Nazarene radio program produced in nearby Cabanatuan City. One young woman from Laur -- Joy -- had won a free gift when she sent a text message to the program during its second anniversary celebration in September.
Local Nazarene pastors and the program's producers had gathered at the station for food and fellowship on Sept. 1 to celebrate the show's milestone during that week's broadcast. Program host Emily Bolinas asked listeners to send text messages that she would read on the air. Participants were promised a gift.
When Joy was among those who won, Pastor Cryz and Nerissa promised to deliver the gift personally. They hadn't known what the trek would involve.
?The place is beautiful, with a view of the Sierra Madre Mountain ranges,? Pastor Colorado wrote in a report. ?We crossed a swamp and hiked on roads that no vehicle could pass. We finally reached the place, sweating and gasping for air.?
While sharing a meal with Joy's family and extended relatives, all of whom listen to Rated PG, Cryz and Nerizza learned there are no active evangelical churches in the area.
?They told us that they really appreciated our visit because we are the first pastor to visit them in the past several years. For that reason, we believe that it was not an accident that we went there. We promised them that we will return,? Colorado said.
When Pastor Colorado reported on the visit to his congregation, the people committed to reach out to Laur.
?Our group of young people and some adults will go back to Laur for evangelism and community service,? he wrote.
Rated PG 's anniversary celebration has led to another cause for celebration ? the joyful expansion of Christ's kingdom in the Philippines.
Rated PG is a family-oriented Nazarene program that airs Saturdays at 3 p.m. on 1188 DZXO AM in Cabanatuan City, in the Nueva Ecija province, Philippines.
